Pictures and Pirate Ships

Here are the two "playing" in the crib... since we co-sleep, the crib is just a place to set Saff while I start dinner or run to the restroom. Here is R trying to entertain her...

Here's my garage sale score...

Originally $130-ish dollars. I paid $10. It comes complete with 3 pirates, a parrot, "plank", 4 cannons, and a barrell (of rum?). I think that Nico and I have played with it more than the kids. Oh and it's huge. Like 2.5 or 3 feet tall and long.

Some Challenges

Well the last week has been a challenge. Roni is having one of his sleep deprivation weeks. Lots of tantrums, short naps, late nights, etc. So trying to get him back “on track” is not very fun. Because R is so cranky, it’s been hard to keep Saff on schedule too. So she’s behind on her sleep as well.

Bella’s been very sick. She stopped eating on Sunday. Monday she started vomiting and didn’t stop for over 24 hours. I took her to the vet Tuesday morning and $600 later they got her mostly fixed up but don’t have any idea what happened. My living room (and other parts of the house) are rather foul due to a certain dog having a vomiting issue. So if you know how to get stains out of a wool rug, please let me know.

No word on the house.

My mother's helper is back. She's coming over twice a week to help me with the kids while I get things done around here. R just LOVES her!

We head to my dad’s for 4th of July weekend next Friday. I’m really looking forward to time away and the visit with my dad.

Now for some really fun news, Saff can laugh now. Except the only one who can make her laugh is R and she's far more entertained by him than he is by her. But he does really enjoy making her laugh it’s quite adorable to watch.

Make sure you check out my friend Annis's blog (my last post). She's in my UU fellowship group with me and her musings on aging are quite funny.

Lazy Father's Day

Hanging out, watching season one of Flight of the Conchords. Maybe going for BBQ later. We gave him a picture frame of the kids for his desk at work and a book: A Constructed View: The Architectural Photography of Julius Shulman. We're going to make some Chocolate Chip Cookies from scratch later. What else could a dad want?

Here's a few of "the man" and his "peeps"...

Potty??? Naps???

So Saff is teething and R is well on the path to being potty trained. Here’s a shot of half his new stash of underpants:
He picked them out. They are superheros.

So far I’ve just been following his cues. A week or so ago, he started telling me when he was “going pee-pee” and we started telling him that the potty was “the place” to “put his pee-pee”. Last Saturday he watched his friend Julien use the potty and practiced by peeing outside. This week we started putting him in underpants (I skipped “pull-ups” on purpose). The first day or two he peed in them. Yesterday he peed in a couple and then was able to hold the last couple of the day and go in the potty instead. Today, he only wore underpants (except for during nap and for bed tonight). We only had two little “starts” that resulted in changed pants. The rest were totally in the potty. While I am not sure we’re totally “there”, I do think that we are well on our way to saying goodbye to diapers.

To add to the potty stuff, he did not nap Wednesday or Thursday. He took an hour nap today, but hasn’t really acted overtired, so we could also be close to giving up naps. At this stage in the game, I would trade naps for fully potty trained. Of course, I would LOVE him to nap two hours everyday and potty in the potty, but I’m a reasonable girl.

Here’s a picture of them on the couch… I really love these couch picture because you can see how close they are in size (already) and it gives you perspective on how fast Saff is growing.

Still no word on the house.

Oh I almost forgot, N got to bring home a 2011 Camero for the weekend. I can’t wait to drive it!!! He’s been joking all night about “smoky donuts”, but I know he won’t actually do that in a company car. We might install the carseats in it for the weekend… really test it out. It looks super cool parked out front and really classes up the place. Not to “dis” the beat-up, 30 year old Scirocco; but if the shoe fits…

My final thought: I missed my Blog-avesary. I've had this blog for 5 years now. I've been looking back through and oh how our lives have changed in the last 5 years. Feel free to e-mail (goldiepre@gmail.com) me or post a comment.

Well the glorious days of simultaneous naps are over. Saff is doing two consistent naps a day, just not at the same time as R. Big Bummer.

I used to do much of my e-mail checking and blogging during that wondrous time¸ but as you can see, I’m behind.

A few recent highlights...

Ronin can tell jokes now, too bad they are only funny to two year olds.

Saff is playing with toys and EVERYTHING goes in her mouth.

Somehow I got yet another darn sinus infection. This time I am on a z-pack (antibiotic) and so far it has only helped a little.

N went to the Scirocco gathering this last weekend in Cinci. From the looks of his sunburned skin and dent in a case of beer, a good time was had!

I'm attempting to read a book called Radical Homemakers: Reclaiming Domesticity from a Consumer Culture. I could have written this book execpt for the "dissing" of my profession section. But she and I are only minorly in disagreement. I'm about halfway through.

Reading anything is very difficult with two young children.

We've heard nothing on the house. Short sales take a LONG time.
