Weekend update!

This week went by in a blur. We were invited over to the Navin house for a grill party on Friday night. We had a lovely time, but had to leave with a quickness because someone didn’t get an afternoon nap and turned into a crank-monster. Well, I learned a very important lesson: Ronin still needs TWO naps to be his sweet, shiny self.

Yesterday Roni and I went to the farmer’s market. We bought some veggie starts and a few flowers. While we were running back to our car in the pouring rain, Nico was dragging home another Scirocco. He assures me this one will be disassembled and disposed of properly. We are accepting names for the new car… I suggested “Vinny Vulture” since it’s basically carrion. But what do you think? Do you name something that’s destined to be demolished???

Today we fixed the lawnmower and Nico mowed a somewhat overgrown lawn. Ronin and I put in the vegetable garden. We planted 4 tomato plants, 4 broccoli, 4 peppers, a row of radishes, a hill of zucchini and some herbs. Not sure what this next week will bring.

Roni can say all sorts of words now, including his new favorite things “dump truck”, “loader”, and “elmo”. And he’s only eating meat (okay not ONLY, but mostly eating meat right now, can that be normal???)

Oh the changes around here!

This last weekend we attended a potluck on Saturday. Nico did all the grilling for over 100 people. He actually enjoyed himself! On Sunday we had Nico’s friend Bruce over for dinner. We both agreed it was a great visit with his friend. This is the friend that let Nico live with him for several months before I moved to Michigan.

Monday night we broke the lawnmower. Well it is, like, 50 years old or something. Nico pulled the cord right out of it. He seems to think that he can fix it. In the meantime, we’ll be using the “reel” mower. Last night I had my fellowship group and today Roni and I went to a local craft exchange/play date. I made bacon and eggs. I started to make a second “set” for the exchange but ran out of time. Here’s the prototype of my cookies…

I’m not sure what the rest of the week will bring, but we are going to start looking for airplane tickets for a trip to KC during July and to NYC for the big wedding in October.

Now, what to do with all this rhubarb from my garden? With my Weight Watcher’s efforts, I don’t think that a traditional pie will work… any suggestions?

Mother's Day Review

What an amazing Mother’s Day Weekend I had.

On Saturday morning we all got cleaned up and went Garage Sale-ing. On of my favorite pastimes. Then the boys went off by themselves. They took me out to a wonderful Sushi lunch (we went on Saturday instead of Sunday so we would miss any “crowds”). After that, we did some planting and moving around of perennials. We had a nice relaxing night in. Sunday morning they let me sleep in, until 8:30!!! After breakfast, they presented me with my card and gift. The necklace is really cute and has a pretty image of a bird on one side and a wooden image of a flower on the other side. Nico said he picked out two and let Ronin make the final decision.

We decided to go to the zoo and spent several hours (and lunch) at the zoo. During and after nap, we did more yard work. Nico roto-tilled my garden for me. Now if it would only stop raining, then we could get the vegetables planted.

It was a magical weekend and my guys are too good to me. Now however do I top that come Father’s Day???

WW and other topics

Well Weight Watchers is going well so far. I just completed my first week and attended my second meeting. I lost 4 pounds last week. I was hoping for more, but happy with those results. The program is aimed to help people lose .5 to 2 lbs per week. However, my personal goal is 2-4 pounds these first few weeks and then 1-2 lbs per week after that.

I’m also happy because I’ve convinced myself to work out for 15 minutes (at an intermediate rate) each day. On top of that we’ve walked to the park several times too, but I don’t really count that. I’m not as motivated today, but I think that’s because my little person seems to be having an “off” day. I really hope he’s not getting sick again.

We are checking out a new doctor next week. She comes highly recommended by several friends, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Today we went to the zoo, but only stayed an hour. Just too close to lunch time and nap to really be able to stay long.

We don’t have plans for tomorrow… any suggestions?

Quick Update

This weekend we put in a new flower bed in the back yard. It’s along the Eastern fence and we hope to actually complete it this weekend.

Ronin’s still sleeping in his bed, but I haven’t night weaned him yet. Neither of us are getting sleep when I deny him his “nu nu”. :)

Nico’s trying to talk me into letting him buy another scirrocco. This one is not for registering, it’s for disassembling. I’m not sold on the idea yet. He really wants a new engine and some other stuff for his other two. I could be convinced if it’s cheap enough.

I've got to get on my local craft swap project. Bacon, eggs, and sausage. All made out of felt and ready for the kids to play with. Hint to Grammy and Grandad... the kiddo needs a wooden play kitchen. And a Learning Tower!!!

Tonight I had my fellowship group and it’s always so refreshing to discuss adult topics. I’ve been leading the discussion on Hinduism for the last two sessions. I’ve recycled some info from my undergrad World Religions class and have also done some recent research. I’ve really enjoyed comparing Hindu beliefs, traditions, and ceremonies to our own Western ones. So I end on this note… “Tat tvam asi”
