Slippers

S wore out her slippers and I've been promising her for a month that I'd make her some new ones.  Well, we are cooped up because of the rain.  Perfect excuse to sew something!  She picked out the fabrics:

I put some denim on the bottom to make them last longer than the last pair.

They are far from perfect, but she's happy with them.

Happenings in these parts...

Well, there's been a lot going on.

N has his summer class and some handyman work that's been keeping him busy so far.  He's also spent a lot of time up on campus prepping for his new job (which starts in the fall).  But he's found a wee bit of time to clean up the backyard (the tree is down and the giant pile of dirt is gone).  He planted some grass and now we're tearing down the dilapidated shed.

That's N there in the background (far right) and Bella (bottom left).  And all that green is our baby grass!  I'm not sure it'll make it though.  We've just had sooooo much rain!

In addition to yard work, the kids started swim lesson which are one hour a day, four days a week for the next three weeks.  And we're participating in the library's summer reading program.  So busy, busy!  Oh and I'm waddling along just trying to keep up!

New addition to Fermentation Station

I'm attempting a sour dough starter...

There's kombucha (a first and second brew in this photo) and that creamy substance is the sour dough starter.

So far so good.  We didn't love the scones I made, but we all thought the pancakes were AMAZING!

What other recipes should I try???

The Letter "E"

Same old thing!  Except we've been busy so we haven't stayed on our schedule exactly.  Tomorrow's post will give you an update on what we've been up to!

But we did find time to make giant E's out of envelopes...

The Letter "D"

I introduced the letter in the usual way (fairy tale, etc) and then we wrote some letters.  While R practiced his letter D's, S drew pictures.

Then we did another fill-in activity only this time we did "dots" for "D".

The following day (or so, we took a couple days off to enjoy the weather) we used the letters "C" and "D" to learn about "coins and dollars".  This activity was a big hit!

I found this activity on Pinterest.  It can also be used as a game, so I placed them in page protectors.  Once they get the hang of the money a bit more we may try the game.  Let me know if you want the link!

Thrifty Thursday

Since we're out of school (Daddy and I) I have more time to scour the thrift stores.  And since I gave away almost all our baby things, there are quite a few things I'm hunting!

Last week I went to the Goodwill, the Recycling Center Thrift Store, and a single garage sale.  Here are a few of the highlights...

This lovely glass canister was $3 and is currently housing dried herbs.  The stainless steel watering can was $1.50 and the books total less than $2.  I found one I was really hoping for The New Baby!  (Anything to help us transition to a family of five).  And a Laura Ingalls Wilder lift the flap book!

In addition to these finds there was a $1 wicker basket that is currently holding puppets, two Halloween costumes (should work for this year)$2 (total), and a couple new baby outfits.  If I haven't mentioned it yet, the new baby is another GIRL!!!  Too bad I didn't save any of S's baby clothes.
